The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announced in a press release on Friday, 16 October, that the ICC had officially recognised the third season of the Nepal Premier League. The tournament, organised and run by CAN, will be played from 26 October to 21 November.

CAN said the sanction would help the development, expansion and international profile of domestic cricket in Nepal, and thanked the ICC for its support.

At the league's media day the same day, CAN secretary Paras Khadka said he had been checking his email for word from the ICC and expected a decision soon.

More room for overseas signings

According to Onlinekhabar, the recognition removes a cap on overseas recruitment. Previously, the ICC had allowed each franchise to sign no more than four players from Test-playing nations for a single edition.

CAN is upgrading the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur to improve crowd management and facilities for players, media and spectators ahead of the season. Nepal is also due to host the ICC's Asia conference in November.

The national team, meanwhile, is in action in Oman in an ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series. On 13 October at Al Amerat, Nepal posted 263 for eight and bowled Oman out to win by 113 runs, with Rohit Kumar Paudel top-scoring on 61 and Sandeep Lamichhane and Nandan Yadav taking three wickets each, the Kathmandu Post reported. Nepal had beaten Canada by 24 runs in their opening match.
