A clear account of what we collect, why, how long we keep it and how to ask for deletion.
What we collect, and why
Newsletter: your email address, preferred language, the time you agreed and your consent. We use it only to send the daily briefing.
Contact enquiries: your name, email address, the reason you chose, your subject and message, and your consent. We use them only to read and answer your message.
Comments: this site does not currently accept reader comments. When it does, comments will be moderated before they appear, and this page will say what is stored.
How long we keep it
Contact enquiries are deleted automatically after 180 days.
Newsletter records are kept until you ask us to delete them or unsubscribe.
On your device only
Saved stories and your chosen text size are stored in your browser’s local storage. They are never sent to our servers and you can clear them at any time by removing a story or clearing site data.
Abuse protection and hosting
Our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from bots. It loads from challenges.cloudflare.com on pages with a form and may process technical information from your browser. We also limit how often one client can submit a form. The site is hosted on Cloudflare. We do not run advertising trackers.
Your choices
To ask for your data to be deleted, use the contact page and choose “General enquiry”, saying which record you mean. Illustrative stories, outlet comparisons and images on this site demonstrate the design and are not presented as current, verified reporting.
Analytics
We count how often pages and stories are read. A count is only a number per day, page or story, language and page type: we set no cookie for it and store no IP address, device details or anything else that could identify you. Views by our editors, by search engines and other bots, and from link previews are not counted.
We may use Microsoft Clarity to understand how readers use the site (for example, where people click and scroll). Clarity never runs on our editing tools or previews. You can opt out on this device with the link at the bottom of every page; the choice is stored in your browser.
